RUDOLFINUM KLUB

As part of the renovation of the Rudolfinum backstage areas, particularly the staff club and reception, architecture studio Lenka Míková Architekti invited DECHEM Studio to reimagine the iconic lighting originally designed by renowned architect Karel Prager.  Read more...

The collaboration focused on preserving Prager's distinctive ceiling light clusters in the staff club, a signature element from his 1990s renovation of the building. However, the lighting system needed substantial technical updates to meet modern requirements. DECHEM Studio addressed this by re-engineering the light sources, improving their protection, and adding dimmability to enhance the ambiance. Furthermore, each light source is now encased in hand-blown glass cylinders featuring the studio’s signature colour gradient.

In addition to updating the 94 ceiling fixtures, the studio designed custom wall lights inspired by the "stalactite" motif. These new fixtures were seamlessly incorporated into the club as well as the reception area, creating a visual connection between the spaces. A sleek horizontal brass luminaire above the reception completes the lighting ensemble, tying the entire design together with a cohesive aesthetic.
