FRAGMENT FEAST
For Venice Glass Week 2024, DECHEM studio crafted the wall object Fragment Feast as a tribute to the diverse world of glass, blending vibrant sheets of Fragmentglass into a captivating composition of depth. Read more...
Displayed in The Mirror Room of Palazzo Loredan, the object engages the viewer in a dance with illusions. It functions as a mirror in which one cannot see their own reflection. Instead, it reveals a three-dimensional space that is entirely unreal, a space that does not exist in the physical world. This distortion of perception invites the audience to question the boundaries between reality and illusion, blurring the line between the tangible and the imagined. By offering a glimpse into a non-existent realm, the object transforms the viewer's experience, challenging expectations and drawing attention to the mysterious interplay of reflection, space, and perspective.
Fragment Feast is inspired by the richness and geometric patterns of Venetian marble mosaics found in historic churches and palazzos. It is composed of flat Fragmentglass sheets that together create a three-dimensional effect. Fragmentglass is DECHEM’s recycled material which uses colourful residual glass from their glass production and, by remelting it, gives it another, noble life. In this way, the object serves not only as a visual feast but also as a symbol of sustainability and innovation in contemporary glass design, showcasing how recycled materials can be transformed into stunning, artistic expressions.
