DECHEM studio was established in Prague in 2012 by Michaela Tomiskova and Jakub Jandourek. Since establishing the studio they have focused on product design and maintained a special focus on glass, exploring traditional Bohemian craft techniques for preparing, gathering, shaping and blowing clear and coloured glass into wooden and metal forms. The glass is then finished with centuries-old techniques, like snapping, grinding and firing, and decorated by the most experienced craftsmen by engraving, cutting and painting. SPHAERAE – matte
Medium-sized, minimalistic light fixture that comprises two basic forms – a sphere and a cylinder entering it from the top. Both shapes constitute a homogenous piece of tinted glass until the moment the lamp is lit. The sphere is illuminated, but the cylinder is not. Both parts become optically separate and the object changes its aesthetic completely.
The three brass balls used to attach the glass to a mount in the cylinder give the lamp an extravagant detail.
Hand-blow glass of various tints, gradients in glass. White, glossy mount inside, functional brass accessories, white textile cable.
Light source E14, 5W, 230V.
Dimensions: diameter 25cm, height 40cm, suspension length 150cm, weight 3kg.
